The collection has been obliged to move twice in a short period of time. As a consequence of that we are still reorganizing parts of the several hundred thousand lots. The present storage building is about 16 km from the museum.
We are particularly cooperating with the Department of Biology. The DoB is the main source of new material to the collections.
We are regularly receiving samples from monitoring programs in coastal areas and shelf (oil and gas field) and invest considerable time in conservation and databasing of such samples.
Hundreds of RP-sledge samples from fjords, shelf, and deep sea retreived by research vessel "Håkon Mosby" have recently been transferred to the museum. They are are now being sorted and processed for safe storage.
In cooperation with Institute of Marine Research we are deeply involved in the Mar-Eco project and are serving a broad range of taxonomists with invertebrate material from the Mid Atlantic Ridge.
We have contributed to the initiation of invertebrate sampling programmes off the coasts of West Africa.
We are operating a loan service for taxonomic specialists around the world. We are also regularly hosting guest researchers who study our collections in situ.
